Around the world, a topographical stunt (2024) is an installation and performance that was on show at festival de oversteek in Nijmegen by invitation of Singular Art gallery in 2024. Two ramps stand in an idyllic setting between a lake and a dike. A public sign explains the curious history of the ramps; a bypassing cyclist used the ramps to perform a jump around the world. Since it was practically very complicated to perform a reenactment of this miraculous jump during the festival Matthieu decided to perform a topographical stunt that would do justice to the original one. The result was a recital from memory of all the countries of the world. The work uses the remarkable power of fiction and questions the absurdity of countries and borders, that are often based on storytelling and fiction as well. In reaction to this the work is an attempt to see the world as one thing.
